Robert F. Lyons

Robert F. Lyons

B. 1937, youngest son of William & Mary Lyons, Yankton, SD.

Bob's father, William and mother Mary - she was a successful farmer's daughter - settled in South Dakota. The one-room schoolhouse he attended was on his father's farm. As he says, "The seeds of lifelong learning were well-rooted first in my home by my parents. We always had plenty of reading material with lively discussion at the table, and we had music too.".>>More  from Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Newsletter

IRELAND'S LEGACY OF LEARNING: Epilogue

Robert F. Lyons, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, University of Southern Maine

G.K. Chesterton was wrong when he said:  "The great Gaels of Ireland are the men that God made mad, for all their wars are merry and all their songs are sad."  The great Gaels of Ireland gave us the tools to read words and to read notes;  to sing songs and to create music.
